Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Cody Ross had to be carted off the field Sunday night after dislocating his right hip.
Ross was running out a routine grounder during the first inning against the Mets when he stumbled a step or two before reaching first base. Ross then fell to the ground, and grabbed his right leg in obvious pain.
“They took him to the hospital and put it back in,” Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson told The Associated Press. “They are doing more tests on him to make sure there is no fracture and just evaluate the damage. It is possible he could have surgery, but they have not determined that yet.”
The Diamondbacks moved Martin Prado from third base to left field to replace Ross, and Matt Davidson entered the game at third in his major league debut.
The Diamondbacks signed Ross as a free agent during the offseason to a three-year, $26 million contract, and the 32-year-old is hitting .278 on the season. Check out a video of the play by clicking here.
