The weird story of Daisuke Matsuzaka continued Tuesday when the Japanese hurler asked for and was granted his release from the Cleveland Indians, the team announced on Twitter.
The 32-year-old signed with Cleveland in February. He was released on March 24, but he quickly signed back on with the Tribe two days later.
Matsuzaka has spent the entire 2013 season with the Indians, but has not pitched an inning at the major league level, spening the entire 2013 season with Triple-A Columbus. He was 5-8 with a 3.92 ERA in 19 starts, with 95 strikeouts in 103 1/3 innings of work.
Matsuzaka last pitched in the majors last season for the Red Sox where he went 1-7 with a 8.28 ERA in 11 starts for Boston. He was 50-37 with a 4.52 ERA in six seasons with the Sox.
