Throwing punches is one thing. Throwing bats is a whole different beast.
It’s rare to see a hitter counteract a beanball with a bat throw, yet that’s exactly what happened during a recent collegiate summer league game in Northern California. Michael Peterson of the California Warriors plunked Sergio Sanchez of the Humboldt Crabs, and Sanchez responded by chucking his stick out in the direction of the hurler.
As you’d expect, the whole ordeal ruffled some feathers. It led to a bench-clearing dust-up, as well as plenty of bickering among those who ventured out to the yard to enjoy America’s pastime.
