Jackie Bradley Jr.When Jackie Bradley Jr. exited Tuesday’s game in Pawtucket, it turned heads, as his departure came right around the time the Red Sox traded for Jake Peavy. It turned out that Bradley actually suffered an injury, and that injury will now require some down time.

The PawSox announced Thursday that Bradley has been placed on the seven-day disabled list with right elbow inflammation. The DL stint is retroactive to Wednesday, and the outfielder is expected to be shut down for a few days before being re-evaluated.

“Anytime you have an uncomfortable feeling, you get a little nervous,” PawSox manager Gary DiSarcina told reporters. “We’ll give him a couple of days to calm down.”

Bradley’s name was tossed around prior to Wednesday’s trade deadline because he is the Red Sox’ No. 2 prospect behind Xander Bogaerts, and it was clear that Boston was going to be aggressive. General manager Ben Cherington said that the Red Sox were never close to dealing Bradley, though, and it’s clear that Boston holds him in high regard.

Bradley is hitting .155 (9-for-58) in 23 games at the major league level this season. He is hitting .278 with eight home runs and 26 RBIs in 58 games at Pawtucket.
