Sometimes you just need a hug, and Monday night Matt Harvey really needed a hug.
After discovering he had partially torn a ligament in his throwing elbow, the 24-year-old’s spectacular rookie season came to an abrupt, devastating end. The Mets ace, who started the All-Star Game, was leading the National League in strikeouts and had recorded a 2.27 ERA on the season, was deservedly upset, but he had someone who was there for him.
Teammate and friend John Buck did what Mets fans everywhere wanted to do — no, he didn’t cry — pulling Harvey in for the head pat and hug.
