Miguel Cabrera‘s biggest hurdle in becoming the first player to record consecutive Triple Crowns may be his own body.

The Detroit Tigers slugger left Thursday’s game with the Oakland Athletics after suffering what the team is calling an abdomen injury. He’s listed as day-to-day. Cabrera appeared  to injure himself when sliding into second base after unsuccessfully trying to stretch a single into a double in the fifth inning.

Cabrera has also been dealing with a hip flexor injury lately.

The single was Cabrera’s second hit of the game, and he’s now hitting .359 on the season to go along with 43 home runs and 130 RBIs. He leads the league in both batting average and RBIs, but he trails Baltimore’s Chris Davis in the home run chase.

The Tigers entered play Thursday leading the AL Central by 5 1/2 games, so it might make sense to rest Cabrera down the stretch.
