Patrice Bergeron, Tomas KopeckyPatrice Bergeron has said all along that he wanted to and believed he’d be ready for training camp. With camp set to open in less than a month, he’s still on that schedule.

The Bruins forward continues to recover from a brutal list of injuries suffered in the playoffs, but he’s still confident he’ll recover in time for the beginning of camp on Sept. 11. Bergeron, who is recovering from a rib injury, shoulder injury and a hole in his lung, has taken the needed time off and continues to work toward getting ready to go in a month.

“I’m feeling pretty good. Recovery’s going well,” Bergeron told the team’s website. “I’d say I’m pretty much 95 percent back to where I’d like to be and I’m feeling pretty good. So I guess everything’s going well and I’ve been cranking up the workouts as well so, so far so good.”

Bergeron said that he spent the early parts of his abbreviated offseason laying low and recuperating. Now that he’s gotten through that forced rest, he’s working on getting back in shape and continuing the rehab process.

“I’m still shooting for being ready for training camp,” he told the team website. “I’ve had no setbacks so far and things have gone well and moved along. I feel pretty good in workouts, so, yeah, I feel pretty confident that things will be fine and I’ll be ready for camp.”

Bergeron scored 10 goals and added 22 assists in 42 games last season and was a plus-24. That was enough to make him a Selke Trophy finalist. The 28-year-old was second in the league in postseason goals with nine and finished in the top 10 in points.

The Bruins signed Bergeron to an eight-year contract extension in July.
