We’re still only three weeks into Patriots training camp, but the rookies — both drafted and undrafted — appear to be adapting well to the system in New England.
Kenbrell Thompkins and Zach Sudfeld have been the stars of camp, but Jamie Collins, Duron Harmon and Logan Ryan all appeared comfortable out with the first- and second-team defense out in Philadelphia. All three players seem to be carving out nice roles for themselves, even if they may not be Week 1 starters.
Collins showed off his versatility, rushing the passer and dropping back in coverage equally against the Eagles. Ryan set up in the slot with the first team and outside with the second team, and though he got beat deep by Jason Avant, still showed how physical he can be at the line of scrimmage.
Harmon seems to have leapfrogged a couple veteran safeties on the roster. During Patriots training camp practice Monday, he was playing free safety with the first team while Devin McCourty was playing cornerback.
