With cutdown day staring them back in the face on Tuesday, the Patriots made some minor roster moves to get down to the 75-man limit.
The Patriots released tight end Evan Landi and defensive tackle Anthony Rashad White ahead of practice on Tuesday. Both players were undrafted rookie free agents and were seen as longshots to make the roster since first signing with the Patriots.
Landi, 23, was signed by the Patriots on Aug. 13 after spending much of the offseason with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. A 6-foot-3, 230-pound tight end from South Florida, Landi finished his career with 72 catches, 846 yards and three touchdowns. Landi played sparingly in the Patriots’ three preseason games, finishing his time in New England with zero catches.
White, 24, signed with the Patriots on July 22. He spent a few weeks with the Pittsburgh Steelers earlier in the offseason after going undrafted out of Michigan State. With a lack of depth on the interior of the Patriots’ defensive line, White was competing with fellow rookie Joe Vellano and second-year player Marcus Forston for a spot behind Vince Wilfork and Tommy Kelly on the roster. White played in each of the Patriots’ three games this preseason, finishing with three tackles.
The NFL requires all teams to trim their rosters down to 75 players by 4 p.m. on Tuesday. The final round of cuts is set for Saturday, Sept. 1, forcing teams to cut down to the final 53-man roster for the regular season.
