Kevin Garnett is finally going to college.

Garnett, who hopped straight to the pros out of Farragut Academy in Chicago in 1995, will join his new teammates on the Brooklyn Nets at Duke University for the first week of training camp this fall. Garnett, Paul Pierce and Jason Terry will descend on Durham, N.C., from Oct. 1-5, the Nets and Duke announced Wednesday.

As Duke’s tweet mentions, Nets general manager Billy King and rookie big man Mason Plumlee are Blue Devils alums, so that’s good for them.

Going away for the beginning of training camp makes sense for the Nets, as the New York Post’s Tim Bontemps points out. The media coverage of the Nets will be intense this season, so a “destination” training camp could give the new teammates a chance to bond, a bit like the Celtics’ trip to Rome and London in 2007 helped the squad build chemistry that ultimately led to their 2008 title.
