US Open GolfIf showing up is half the battle, then registering is the other 50 percent.

Phil Mickelson holds the No. 2 ranking in the world, and he is coming off an impressive victory at the Open Championship three weeks ago, but Lefty risked disqualification from the PGA Championship when he almost forgot to register for the event.

The tournament is slated to begin Thursday, but as of Wednesday morning Mickelson still hadn’t officially signed up.

Players are required to register before the opening round, so at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon, the five-time major winner strolled into the Oak Hill Country Club clubhouse in flip-flops and a T-shirt, registered and quickly left.

Mickelson is seeking his second straight major, and as long as he remembers his tee times, he’s got a shot.
