Beat LA SpotlightThe Boston Celtics must have been asleep at the wheel when the Phoenix Suns made this power move.

The Suns, a former rival of the Los Angeles Lakers, spent $5,300 to purchase a unique Internet domain name as a nod to the past rivalry, according to the Los Angeles Times. The domain name Beat.la now belongs to the Suns.

Technically, the “.la” is a country code for URLs in Laos, but the team used some creativity to come up with the name.

Nothing lives on the site so far, outside of a graphic of the hashtag #BeatLA with the Suns logo. There are also links to the history of the rivalry, which direct back to NBA.com.

Neither the Suns nor the Lakers are poised to have championship seasons this year, so it’s possible that the domain was purchased as a future investment.
