Major League Baseball ballboys are like NFL lineman — you only hear about them when something bad happens.

And something bad happened at a Tampa Bay Rays game recently.

The Rays ballboy (whose lone job it is to protect the Rays bullpen from baseballs) failed to protect the Rays bullpen from a foul chopper, and the result was pretty bad. Reliever Brandon Gomes took it right off the face and, while he was OK, the other Rays relievers didn’t let the ballboy forget about his error.

But, luckily for the young man wearing the Rays uni, a fielder’s glove and batters helmet, he got a couple of chances to redeem himself and he did just that.
