Red Wings Prospect Gustav Nyquist Gets Puck Back From First NHL Goal, Woman Arrested for Stealing It

goal Detroit Red Wings prospect Gustav Nyquist has one career NHL goal in 20 games over the past two seasons, but until recently he had nothing to show for it, except for a lone picture taken after the game.

After the 2011-12 season ended, the 23-year-old, who spends the majority of his time playing for the AHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins, put most of his belongings from his Michigan apartment in a storage unit. In addition to clothes and furniture, Nyquist also stored away the puck from the game against the Blue Jackets when he recorded his first tally on March 26, 2012.

When Nyquist returned to Michigan the following September, however, he found that the puck had essentially disappeared as he was told the unit was auctioned off. Now, months later, a woman is in custody for allegedly organizing a scheme to steal and auction off Nyquist’s puck, according to the Detroit Free Press. Amy Lynn Jones is charged with conducting a criminal enterprise, breaking and entering a building and receiving and concealing stolen property.

The disappearing puck story does have a happy ending, though. Detectives have found Nyquist’s puck and since returned it to him. It may have taken almost a year, but the good news for Nyquist comes on the same day he agreed to a two-year contract with the Red Wings.
