The Hawaii Bowl just got put on notice.
College football’s most exotic bowl game may be surpassed in 2014, when teams from Conference USA and the MAC will face off in the inaugural Bahamas Bowl in the island’s capital city of Nassau, according to ESPN.com.
The game, which will be played at 15,000-seat Thomas Robinson Stadium, will be the first bowl held outside the United States since the 2010 International Bowl in Toronto — a far less desirable locale in the dead of winter.
C-USA is also expected to debut a new bowl in Boca Raton, Fla., following the 2014 season, which — in addition to the Montgomery, Ala.-based Camellia Bowl announced Monday — would increase the NCAA’s number of bowl games to an all-time high of 38.
The bowl system will undergo a bit of a shake-up, though, as next season will be the first played under the new College Football Playoff system. It’s highly unlikely that a C-USA team will come anywhere near securing a playoff bid, but spending a week in the Bahamas wouldn’t be a bad consolation prize.
