Jay LarranagaEventually, the Sixers are going to name a head coach, and new general manager Sam Hinkie‘s needlessly long process to fill the vacancy will end. Once it does, there is still a chance Celtics assistant Jay Larranaga could be the guy in the big seat.

Larranaga is one of four candidates who were asked back for second-round interviews with the Sixers, Yahoo! Sports reports. After passing a first-round interview with Hinkie, Larranaga is scheduled to meet with Sixers managing partners Joshua Harris and David Blitzer, according to Adrian Wojnarowski.

Kenny Atkinson, Brett Brown and Adrian Griffin, all current NBA assistants, are also scheduled for second-round interviews. Portland assistant David Vanterpool and Sixers assistant Michael Curry also are not out of the running, Yahoo! reports.

Larranaga, 37, joined the Celtics’ staff prior to last season as an assistant under Doc Rivers. He coached the Celtics’ summer league team and was the only holdover from Rivers’ tenure to remain on new Boston coach Brad Stevens‘ staff.
