Craig EhloNobody remembers it anymore, but Craig Ehlo played his butt off in the 1989 Eastern Conference playoff game that culminated in “The Shot” by Michael Jordan. Ehlo came off the bench to score 24 points, including the go-ahead layup with three seconds left, to set up Jordan’s heroics.

All anyone remembers of Ehlo now, of course, is his body crumpled on the floor in defeat while Jordan set a new standard for the most awesome fist pump in history. Now, fans will have another unfortunate image of Ehlo.

Details of Ehlo’s arrest on domestic violence charges came to light Thursday, and they are downright sad. Ehlo had been arguing with his wife, according to The Spokesman-Review of Spokane, Wash., and piled up clothes beside his garage to set on fire. When Spokane County deputies arrived, they allegedly found two men holding Ehlo on the ground to prevent him from leaping into the fire.

“The family members told the deputies they were holding Ehlo because ‘they thought he was … going to run and jump onto the fire. That’s why he was being detained on the ground,'” the Spokesman-Review reports.

No injuries were reported, but the fire did melt some of the house’s siding and an awning, according to a police report. Ehlo was due to appear in court Friday.
