Report: Jose Iglesias Will Be Represented by Scott Boras After Switching Agencies

Jose IglesiasJose Iglesias has found a new agent to go with his new team.

Iglesias, formerly represented by Relativity Sports, has changed agencies and will now be represented by Scott Boras, according to Liz Mullen of the Sports Business Journal.

Boras, of course, is the most recognizable agent in baseball. He currently represents many of the game’s biggest stars, and he’s known for sending his clients to the open market, where they often come away with lucrative contracts. If Iglesias earns a big payday, though, it might not come for a while, as the Tigers shortstop isn’t arbitration-eligible until after the 2015 season. The 23-year-old isn’t slated to become a free agent until after the 2018 season.

Iglesias was traded to Detroit recently as part of the deal that sent Jake Peavy to Boston. He is hitting .318 this season, although his offense has dropped off considerably since the beginning of July.

Iglesias is known for his defensive prowess, so we’ll see if Boras can someday parlay that part of his game into the big bucks.
