Paul PierceOf the Celtics’ two preseason games scheduled to take place at TD Garden, one of them is against the Brooklyn Nets. But fans with tickets to the Oct. 23 exhibition contest should not expect to see their beloved Paul Pierce back on the parquet floor for the first time since this summer’s blockbuster trade.

Pierce hinted in a radio interview on Thursday that he will skip the Nets’ preseason visit to Boston, delaying his rousing return for the regular season.

“I’ll do it just one time next year,” Pierce said of a welcome-back tour in Boston.

Pierce and the Nets make their first trip to Boston on Jan. 26, then play again at the Garden on March 7. Presumably, Pierce will be suited up for those games, giving Celtics fans at least two chances to show their appreciation to their former captain for all his fine work.
