Von Miller could have been suspended for the entire 2013 season, but he got off easy, accepting a six-game punishment instead. Next time, though, Miller won’t be so fortunate.
Since Miller has violated the substance abuse policy twice now — once for a spilled urine sample, once for a diluted sample — a third strike will be a minimum season-long ban, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. Miller will remain in the NFL’s drug program for his entire career, according to Rapoport.
There were few concerns about Miller coming out of Texas A&M. He had admitted to smoking marijuana in high school, but his only other “transgressions” were speeding tickets and an academic-related suspension, according to Albert Breer of NFL Network.
Miller has 30 sacks in two seasons with the Broncos. He had 18 1/2 sacks last season, finishing third in the NFL behind J.J. Watt and Aldon Smith. The Broncos also lost their second-leading pass rusher from last season, Elvis Dumervil, who was released after his agent didn’t fax paperwork to Denver on time.
