Michael JenkinsMichael Jenkins had an impressive spring with the Patriots, performing well in OTAs and minicamp, but once the team strapped the pads on, it quickly became obvious Jenkins was going to be passed by some rookie wide receivers.

Jenkins was released by the Patriots on Thursday, as first reported by Adam Schefter of ESPN. The impressive training camps of Aaron Dobson, Josh Boyce and Kenbrell Thompkins likely had a lot to do with the roster move.

Jenkins has been dealing with an injury for the past few weeks. He was in full uniform during Wednesday’s joint practice with the Buccaneers, but he was not performing in drills. The release leaves the Patriots with Dobson, Boyce, Thompkins, Danny Amendola, Julian Edelman and Matthew Slater likely to make the 53-man roster. Kamar Aiken and Quentin Sims also have an outside shot at making the team’s Week 1 roster.
