What’s Russian for “The kiss heard ’round the world?”

Just months after president Vladimir Putin signed off on legislation that allows individuals to be fined up to $3,000 for promoting “nontraditional sexual relations,” four Russian sprinters sparked some controversy on one of track and field’s biggest stages, according to rferl.org. The legislation has been a hot topic leading up to the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi in February.

On Saturday, the Russian sprinters, having just won the 4×400-meter relay at the World Athletics Championships in Moscow, celebrated by locking lips on the winner’s podium. The smooches are being classified as a “protest at anti-gay law,” according to Russian media outlets, but a spokeswoman for the ladies said Monday that the incident had been “inflated by the Western media.”

Somebody get Skip Bayless a breakdown of which teams are in which conference. Maybe put it next to that “Why doesn’t anybody ever admit I’m right?” sign.
