Shane Victorino, David OrtizShane Victorino was recognized for his monster week at the plate on Monday, with the American League honoring him as its Player of the Week.

Victorino recorded multiple hits in five of his last seven games, with the Red Sox winning all five. The right fielder batted an even .400 on the week (12-for-30), totaling three doubles, two home runs, six RBIs and seven runs scored.

A pair of those RBIs came in the ninth inning of last Thursday’s game against Seattle, when the Red Sox rallied for six runs in the final frame to stun the Mariners 8-7.

In 79 games this season — his first in Boston — Victorino is hitting .290 with seven home runs and 34 RBIs. He becomes the third Red Sox player to earn the weekly honor this year, after Mike Napoli and Andrew Bailey shared the award for the week of April 21.
