This sounds like a case of working because you want to, not because you have to.
A successful tech millionaire from South Korea who founded the country’s first independent baseball club is now trying his hand at baseball in America. Hur Min founded the Goyang Wonders in 2011, and the team announced Thursday that the 37-year-old is joining the Rockland Boulders, a Pomona, N.Y.-based team playing in the Canadian American Association of Professional Baseball, also known as the Can-Am League, according to The Washington Post.
Hur is a baseball fan who had the means to hire a pro to teach him how to throw a knuckleball — one of his teachers for the past eight years has been knuckleball specialist and Hall of Fame member Phil Niekro.
“I’m happy to show the Wonders players and others who haven’t had a chance that you’ll see a fruit of your effort if you don’t give up and keep trying,” Hur said in a statement. “I’ll continue to take up challenges for a higher stage.”
Hur’s entrepreneurial success came when his company’s online video game, called Dungeon and Fighter, was a hit in China. In a 2011 interview, Hur said that his assets are close to $900 million. He was the CEO at an e-commerce firm called Wemakeprice until last month.
