Steve Mason’s Goalie Mask to Feature Zombie Versions of Benjamin Franklin, George Washington (Video)

The Philadelphia Flyers’ crease has been a graveyard for goaltenders in the recent past, so it might seem fitting that Flyers goalie Steve Mason is turning to the walking dead for this season.

Mason, who was acquired by the Flyers at the trade deadline last season, will hope to help turn around a Philly team that underachieved in 2013. Those struggles stemmed in large part from the play of Ilya Bryzgalov, who was bought out and will be replaced by Mason and veteran netminder Ray Emery.

While Mason may not ever regain the form that saw him win 33 games while posting a 2.29 goals against average and .916 save percentage in his rookie season, he’ll at least be able to boast he has a pretty awesome mask.

NHL.com has the story of Mason’s 2013-14 mask, which will be intricate if nothing else. The mask will have a zombie apocalypse theme, and it’s going to include zombie versions of Philadelphia and American heroes like Ben Franklin, George Washington and Betsy Ross.
