FOXBORO, Mass. — Tim Tebow accomplished an unlikely feat on Friday night, and not one that he’ll ever be proud of.
Tebow completed just one of his seven passes against the Buccaneers on Friday, finishing the night with a 0.0 passer rating, one ugly interception and negative-1 passing yards. It’s unlikely that a quarterback would go two series, never mind two quarters, with negative yardage, which makes the situation even more gruesome.
The third-string quarterback made some poor decisions, all of which were highlighted by a cringe-worthy interception that sailed well over intended receiver Kenbrell Thompkins‘ head and into the waiting arms of Bucs cornerback Mason Robinson. After the game, Tebow, who was under duress on the throw, admitted that he knows he shouldn’t have let the ball go in the first place.
“[I was] kind of getting pulled, so I didn’t really see what happened,” Tebow said. “I probably just threw it high.”
As for any mistakes he might have made on Friday, Tebow pointed only to the turnover, readily admitting that it was one that he just shouldn’t have made — like this hilarious miscue.
“Just on the one,” Tebow said of his mistakes. “On the interception, I didn’t even necessarily see it. It was definitely something I shouldn’t have thrown. Forcing it too much.”
The one pass that Tebow completed, at least to his own team, was on a short screen to rookie receiver Josh Boyce, who was immediately hit and brought to the ground for a one-yard loss. That completion left Tebow in the red by the time the final seconds ticked off the game clock, yet the clearly struggling quarterback somehow maintained a positive attitude.
“As a competitor, you want to do your best and play to the best of your ability and have it all go right,” Tebow said. “Sometimes it doesn’t. You just have to keep going.”
Keep going he will. The question now is for how much longer does he keep going in New England.
