Tom BradyFOXBORO, Mass. — Tom Brady turned 36 on Saturday, but he looked as spry as ever during his brief time on the practice field at Patriots training camp.

The Patriots took the field in their shorts and shells on Saturday morning, running an OTA-esque scrimmage — coincidentally? — on Brady’s birthday. The players broke off into two teams (white and blue), which appeared to be made up of the first- and second-team offenses and defenses, and played a full “game” for the duration of the 2 1/2-hour session.

Brady started the scrimmage for the first-team (white) offense, running two successful series down the field before heading to the sideline and handing the reins to backup Ryan Mallett for the rest of the day. The short-lived appearance was more than enough time for Brady to lead two scoring drives to put the white up 13-0 early. (Vince Wilfork missed an extra point.)

Brady’s day was highlighted by a pair of touchdowns to his new favorite weapon, Danny Amendola. The two hooked up on a slant route to the middle of the end zone on the first drive, with Brady delivering a perfectly placed ball over the top of safety Adrian Wilson for the score. Their second connection was somewhat similar, as Amendola ran a quick slant again into the middle of the end zone and Brady zipped the ball in a tight window, this time beating Kyle Arrington in coverage.

After tossing the second touchdown, Brady kicked back to watch the rest of practice from the sidelines. All in all, it was a pretty nice way to spend a birthday.
