Ever since their emergence as a legitimate NFC contender, the Seahawks have enjoyed the best home-field advantage in the NFL, with CenturyLink’s unique shape and enthusiastic crowd helping to create one of the rowdiest atmospheres in football.

After the visiting Niners were throttled 29-3 by the Seahawks on Sunday night, a pair of Bay Area residents penned an angry letter to the San Francisco Chronicle. The two claim that Seattle’s deafening crowd noise — which was measured at 131.9Â decibels, breaking the Guinness world record for “loudest stadium” — gave the home team an unfair advantage, and they propose some pretty drastic punishments for future offenders.
“It would be simple to fix,” the letter read. “Seahawks players and managers would ask their fans to cease and desist, and the NFL would implement a new rule: The visiting team may stop the game when fan noise is greater than a specified decibel level, and should this rule be violated in more than three games, no home games will be played at the offending field for the rest of the season, including playoff games. Things would quiet down.”
