Things quickly went from bad to worse for the Baltimore Orioles.

Soon after Manny Machado left the game on a stretcher, second baseman Alexi Casilla collided violently with Nick Markakis and exited the game the following inning. Casilla entered the game for the injured Machado, but his time on the field was short-lived. The second baseman was backpedaling into the outfield, trying to track down Wil Myers‘ bloop hit when he made a diving attempt on the ball. Casilla made the difficult catch, but as he was falling to the grass, Casilla’s head directly hit Markakis’ knee and the ball popped out.

Casilla remained on the ground for several minutes, clearly shaken up, but he remained in the game as the O’s recorded the final out of the inning. Casilla did not go back out for the eighth inning, however.
