The 2013 NFL season is off to an inauspicious start.

After an elaborate pregame ceremony that featured 32 retired NFL greats, “The Final Countdown” and Ryan Seacrest, officials at Sports Authority Field at Mile High announced that kickoff for the season opener between the Broncos and Ravens, originally scheduled for 8:40 p.m. on Thursday, had been delayed due to lightning storms in the area.

Though only a light drizzle was falling at the stadium site, the start of the game was pushed back by 15 minutes in an effort to allow the heavy weather to bypass Denver. Kickoff is now scheduled for 8:55 p.m.
