Danny Trevathan has to be happy that cuts were made before this Thursday night special.

The second-year linebacker for the Denver Broncos added himself to the shortlist of players who have dropped a sure touchdown before crossing the goal line, but he did it with a special twist. When Trevathan snagged a fourth-quarter interception but discarded the ball before he hit paydirt, he started a scramble for possession — a scramble that got one of his teammates injured.

Wesley Woodyard, a fellow linebacker and one of the key pieces of Denver’s defense, got smeared trying to get the ball and left the game with an ankle injury.

With Peyton Manning, who prefers his teammates use their heads, and defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio, who can dish out some good rage, both in the same locker room as Trevathan, the youngster may have even more to worry about.
