That was why it stung McNabb so much when Reid traded him to Washington on Easter in 2010. The Eagles viewed Kevin Kolb as their quarterback of the future, and we all know how that went. If not for a surprising bounce-back year for Michael Vick that season, the Eagles would have been in serious trouble.
There will not be any hard feelings when McNabb and Reid are at Lincoln Financial Field on Thursday night when the Eagles retire McNabb’s No. 5, though. Reid, now coach of the Kansas City Chiefs, and McNabb had lunch earlier this year to put the incident behind them, the quarterback told reporters on Wednesday.
“He ate more tacos than I did,” McNabb said, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer. “I wish it had come earlier, but it was needed and we were able to put some things out on the table. I think that conversation gave us an opportunity to move forward.”
Expect a big embrace between McNabb and Reid at some point on Thursday. As for whether McNabb will be embraced by the fans, do not be so certain.
