The good people at Red Bull know how to innovate.
One of the energy drink maker’s soccer teams, German third-division club Red Bull Leipzig, used a novel play to score a goal just 10 seconds after kickoff.
Eight Leipzig players lined up on the halfway line to start the game. Seven ran toward the opposition (Stuttgart II)Â goal after kickoff, as one of the few players who remained in their half played the ball forward.
The strategy appeared to unsettle Stuttgart II players, because Leipzig’s Daniel Frahn was able to put ball in the goal just two touches — and a few seconds — later.
It’s not often that a soccer team can score with a scripted play, and this is one of those moves that works once and only once. Leipzig deserves all the credit for executing it, as it won the game 3-1.
