There are better ways to kick off the NFL regular season.
Indianapolis Colts rookie John Boyett was arrested early Monday morning on preliminary charges of disorderly conduct, public intoxication and resisting law enforcement, according to the Indianapolis Star.
The Star reports that the Colts sixth-round draft pick wasn’t allowed into an Indianapolis bar after the bouncer deemed him too intoxicated. After being denied entry, Boyett “cussed at patrons of the bar and people on the sidewalk,” according to the police report.
The 23-year-old was reportedly gone by the time a police officer arrived on scene but he returned to the bar a few moments later, and was approached by a police officer. Once the officer tried to place Boyett under arrest, he attempted to flee and even threw a “stiff arm” at the officer, according to the report.
After delivering threats to the officers and telling them, “You can’t arrest me, I’m a Colts player,” Boyett ran from the cops but was eventually tracked down and subdued by four officers.
“Mr. Boyett had an odor of an alcoholic beverage about his person, his speech was slurred, his eyes were red and glassy, and he had a very abusive behavior toward everyone,” according to the police report.
The University of Oregon product is currently on the non-football injury list with knee problems.
