Boston Red SoxOne night off was enough for Jacoby Ellsbury.

The center fielder and leadoff hitter, who is battling soreness in his left thumb, was inserted back in the lineup for Wednesday night’s series finale against Detroit after being held out of Tuesday’s contest. Manager John Farrell said that Ellsbury’s injury isn’t one that will go away immediately, but that it was only expected to sideline him for one game.

Mike Napoli also gets the start Wednesday after being used as a pinch hitter in the Red Sox’ 2-1 win the previous night. He’ll play first base and bat sixth.

Over on the visitors’ side, Miguel Cabrera will not be in the starting lineup for the Tigers. Cabrera had missed the previous three games before getting the start Tuesday night, and manager Jim Leyland said that the slugger is still suffering from lingering soreness in his groin.

“It’s sore today, that’s all I can tell you,” Leyland said, according to The Detroit News. “I can’t answer when he’s going to play.”
