Muhammad WilkersonThe apple apparently doesn’t fall from the tree at Jets headquarters.

Jets head coach Rex Ryan is known for his gutsy guarantees, such as that time he predicted the Jets would win the Super Bowl — three years in a row. Sitting on a very warm seat to start the season, Ryan kept his predictions to himself this year, but that hasn’t kept at least one Jets player from following in his coaches bold footsteps.

Third-year defensive lineman Muhammad Wilkerson was on an emotional high after the Jets’ last-second win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday. He was so stoked that he even offered up some bulletin board material for the Patriots, guaranteeing a Jets victory, during an interview on WFAN in New York on Monday.

“We’re going to go to Foxboro and get this win,” Wilkerson said, via CBS New York. “We’re going to be 2-0.”

The Jets have a short turnaround this week, heading into Gillette Stadium for a divisional game against the Patriots on Thursday night. Any meeting in this heated rivalry typically results in sparks flying between the two foes, but Wilkerson’s comments should only add fuel to the fire this week.

Confidence is an important attribute for any team, but there is a stark difference between confidence and arrogance. Either way, you can be certain Bill Belichick won’t take kindly to it.
