Jonny GomesEditor’s note: NESN.com is holding a three-week tournament to determine “Boston’s Best Newcomer.” The Red Sox added a lot of new faces in 2013, and the results have been impressive. It’s time to determine which new addition from 2013 best embodies Boston baseball.

Jonny Gomes came to Boston with a reputation of being a winner and a great clubhouse guy. To say that he’s been as advertised would be an understatement.

Gomes, who signed a two-year, $10 million contract in the offseason, has produced on the field. Even when his playing time has been sporadic, he has found a way to leave a mark, as his pinch-hit prowess has been extremely impressive. There’s real value in knowing that you have a guy who is capable of coming off the bench and putting up a good at-bat in the later innings, and Gomes’ power has led to some memorable moments.

Gomes has also had a huge influence on the Red Sox’ overall clubhouse culture change. Ben Cherington and the Red Sox’ front office made it a point last offseason to acquire players who had both talent and character. It’s easy to see why Gomes ended up on their radar.

Gomes simply wants to win, and he has fun doing it. It’s rubbing off on everyone else.
