Choi Jun-seok took excessive and unnecessary celebration to a new level Monday night.
During the eighth inning of a Korean Baseball Organization game, the Doosan Bears slugger ripped a 1-0 pitch deep to left field. Choi knew the ball was gone as soon at it left his bat, which he flung toward the dugout before admiring his shot with his hands held high.
There was just one problem, though. Choi’s deep fly ball was not a home run. Not even close.
In fact, the ball appears to sail about 50 feet to the left of the left field foul pole, landing not in the outfield grandstand but instead in the upper deck along the third base line.
But more to the point — why was Choi celebrating anyway? The Bears trailed 10-3 at the time, meaning that all his long ball would have done was turn a seven-run game in the eighth inning into a six-run game in the eighth inning.
Surprisingly, the Lotte Giants pitcher chose not to bean Choi with the next pitch, but he did strike him out swinging later in the at-bat.
