Michael Vick is fast. The Eagles’ offense on Monday night was even faster.
Chip Kelly‘s influence on the Eagles’ new-look offense was obvious against Washington on Monday. The Eagles ran 77 offensive plays in the game, some which happened within 10 to 12 seconds of one another. At times, the Eagles looked like they weren’t even communicating with one another anymore, but rather just getting to the line and snapping the ball. It was incredible to watch, but apparently equally so to be a part of.
“It was a crazy game. I’ve never been a part of anything like it,” Vick said with a smile during his postgame interview. “When the first quarter was over, I thought we were about to go into halftime. It was unreal. The only thing I can say is, it’s gonna be a long season.”
The speed of the offense seemed to keep the Redskins on their heels for much of the first half, as the Eagles ran out to a 26-7 halftime lead. Vick noted that the Eagles eased up on the throttle in the second half, which might explain the Redskins’ comeback. He also seemed in disbelief at just how fast the offense got at times in the first half.
“I don’t think it can get too much faster than that,” Vick said.
That rapid pace might wear some players down, but Vick seemed confident that he and his teammates would be able to sustain it throughout the entire season. He said that he could have kept playing, even after the 33-27 win.
“I feel like I could play another four quarters,” Vick added.
Vick finished the night 15 of 25 passing for 203 yards and two touchdowns. He added 54 yards on the ground on nine carries, which was merely a fraction of the Eagles’ 263 rushing yards on the night.
From the looks of it so far, faster is definitely better.
