Mike Vick is not happy with the way things went down in practice Thursday.
Two of Vick’s Eagles teammates, Riley Cooper and Cary Williams, engaged in a heated tussle during a non-contact practice. Williams reportedly used a racial slur during the altercation, saying “I’m not a n- you [mess] with,” according to Philly.com.
Vick, along with a few other Eagles players, stepped in to break up the fight, and the quarterback was praised by reporters after practice for being the peacemaker.
“I try to be the peacemaker, but these young dudes don’t respect me,” Vick said, as he gestured his head toward Williams, according to Philly.com.
“Our maturity level’s gotta be on a whole different plane,” he said. “Regardless of who the catalyst was for the whole fight, that doesn’t matter. We’ve gotta be men. We’re not guys who are out on the street, fighting one another. We’re teammates. … It’s game week. We don’t have time for that. I don’t. It’s a distraction.”
Other members of the team denied that the fight would have any negative lasting affects on the team’s performance and said that scuffles like that one are just part of the game.
The Eagles open their season Monday night against the Redskins on Monday Night Football.
