Tailgating just got a lot sweeter for University of Michigan students.
Head coach Brady Hoke has been promoting Saturday’s noon contest against Akron as the “glazed donut game,” and he will be handing out those tasty treats to the first 5,000 students who show up to The Big House, courtesy of Tim Hortons.
Hoke made the announcement on Thursday on Detroit’s 97.1 FM, and revealed that the delectable tradition stems from his youth playing days with the Tiger Sharks in Kettering, Ohio.
“You’d get up in the morning, right, and the first thing you’d do, I had one of these bikes that had the handlebars — with a wheelie bar and a banana seat,” Hoke recalled. “I’d put my uniform on, and my helmet — I usually wore it. I’d go to the doughnut shop and get a glazed doughnut.
“Then I’d go to the ball field and go play. And so, any time we play at noon or earlier, we call it a glazed doughnut game.”
Alright, Wolverines, first one to show up in a tricked-out bike gets TWO donuts on Saturday.
