Minor League Catcher Brian Jeroloman Gets Leveled in Home Plate Collision (Video)

Brian Jeroloman was on the receiving end Wednesday night of one of the most violent collisions of the 2013 baseball season.

The catcher for the Nationals’ Double-A affiliate in Harrisburg, Jeroloman was blocking home plate during Game 1 of the Eastern League semifinals when he was absolutely cleaned out by Erie SeaWolves second basemanĀ Brandon Douglas. Douglas’ shoulder connected with Jeroloman’s chin, dislodging the ball and sending the catcher’s helmet and mitt flying

Jeroloman was taken to the hospital with a gash on his chin, and the Senators placed him on the disabled list the following day. The hit was jarring but, according to Harrisburg manager Matt LeCroy, well within the rules.

“That was a pretty good hit at the plate, a clean play,” LeCroy told The Patriot News.
