Muhammad WilkersonMuhammad Wilkerson sent a message to the Patriots on Monday, claiming that the Jets were going to win in Foxboro. One day later, though, the Jets’ defensive lineman is adjusting his statement.

The so-called guarantee came during a radio interview with WFAN in New York. During the interview, Wilkerson clearly says “We’re going [to go] up to Foxboro and get this win,” which might sound like a guarantee to the untrained ear. But, Wilkerson made sure to clarify the situation on Tuesday.

“I didn’t guarantee no win or anything. All I said was, as long as we follow the game plan … we’ll be fine,” Wilkerson said to ESPN New York’s Rich Cimini.

Looking at a conversation Wilkerson had with Newsday’s Bob Glauber on Monday, it seems that maybe the defensive lineman wasn’t guaranteeing a win after all. Instead, he was just projecting the confidence his Jets team has been developing over the past few months.

“If our game plan is as good as it was , I don’t see why we won’t be 2-0,” Wilkerson said. “I’m confident in our coaching staff to have a great game plan and us being 2-0.

“I’m not saying I’m guaranteeing it, but I’m saying if we do our jobs and follow our game plan, I don’t see why we wouldn’t be 2-0,” Wilkerson added. “We had a good game plan in the first game and we won, so why wouldn’t I feel that way for this game? I’m here with these guys every day and I see all the hard work that myself and everybody else on this team is putting in. We can be a dominant defense.”

Even if Wilkerson was only projecting the confidence of his team, there’s no doubt that the Patriots heard the message loud and clear. And the last thing the Jets need right now is to give a frustrated Patriots team any more ammo.
