The quarterback controversy may be no more for the Jets.

Mark Sanchez visited with Dr. James Andrews for a second opinion on his shoulder, and the renowned physician confirmed the worst: Sanchez has a labral tear in his right shoulder and will likely have season-ending surgery to repair it, according to ESPN.com.

If Sanchez elects not to have surgery (ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reports the quarterback will decide in the next day or two), then he could opt to rehab his shoulder, in the hopes of playing sometime this season. Sanchez would likely still need surgery at the end of the season if he takes that route, however.
