Report: Mark Sanchez Plans to Have Surgery on Torn Labrum, Expected to Be Out 4-6 Months

mark-sanchezMark Sanchez is giving up on his attempt to rehab the torn labrum in his right shoulder.

Sanchez has finally decided to quit the attempted rehab and have season-ending surgery, according to the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. He’ll need 4-6 months to rehab, meaning he should be healthy by the time free agency begins in the middle of March.

Sanchez suffered the injury during the Jets’ third preseason game. Rex Ryan decided to put the veteran quarterback in midway through the fourth quarter, which led to backlash from fans and media as well as this incredible press conference.

He was locked in a competition with Geno Smith for the Jets’ starting quarterback job at the time. In all likelihood, the Jets will release Sanchez after this season, avoiding a $2 million roster bonus owed to him on the 25th day of the 2014 league year.

Sanchez, 26, played in 62 games over four seasons with the Jets, throwing 68 touchdowns and 69 interceptions and leading the team to two AFC Championship Games.
