Oh, Astros. If it’s not butt-tagging then it’s something else.
This year’s Houston team has been a failure of massive proportions on the field. The team is the worst in baseball, and the television ratings are starting to reflect that. On Sunday, the Astros took on the Indians, looking to snap an eight-game losing streak and, according to the Nielsen number, the noon game in Cleveland on Comcast Sportsnet Houston drew a 0.0 household rating, the Houston Chronicle reports.
In layman’s terms; no one watched the game on CSN Houston.
Nielsen ratings are an audience measurement system used to figure out the audience size and composition for TV programming around the U.S. The system uses meters connected to TVs around the country, which report viewing habits back to the Nielsen company. On Sunday, Nielsen had reports from 851 meters in the Houston designated market area, and in any given 15 minute span between noon and 3 p.m., an average of 50% of the meters were in use (roughly 270 to 300).
Not a single one was tuned in to watch the Astros rack up their 105th loss of the season.
For comparison, A “Law and Order” rerun on TNT between noon and 1 p.m. had a 0.9 rating, a WNBA game between the Chicago Sky and the Indiana Fever had an 0.3 rating on ESPN2 and the Bears-Steelers game on NBC had a 13.6 rating in primetime.
As has been the norm this year, the Astros are bringing up the rear — in more ways than one.
