Report: Suns to Release Michael Beasley By End of Week

Wilson Chandler, Michael BeasleyThe Suns will become the latest team to declare their Michael Beasley experiment a failure when they release him sometime this week, ESPN reports.

Beasley, the No. 2 pick in the 2008 draft, is expected to be cut by the end of this week, according to ESPN. Part of Beasley’s three-year, $18 million contract, which raised eyebrows when Phoenix offered it to him last year, will be given out in installments through the NBA’s “stretch provision,” which allows teams to extend payments over multiple seasons rather than cost a team a large cap hit in a single year.

Beasley was recently arrested — again — for marijuana possession. He has had his fair share of problems surrounding the drug since entering the league, and his production has never made him worth the trouble. He’s averaged 14.1 points and 5.2 rebounds per game over five seasons.
