Report: Trent Richardson Learned of Trade From Browns to Colts When He Heard News on Radio

The rest of the world heard about the big Trent Richardson-to-the-Colts trade from Colts owner Jim Irsay. Richardson apparently learned about it on the radio.

Mark Schwab of CBS-19 in Cleveland says Richardson didn’t know he’d been dealt from Cleveland to Indianapolis until a friend called him Wednesday, and even that seemed suspicious. So Richardson flipped on the old radio and found out what plenty of others knew already.

The trade was a bit of a shocker for the NFL, which doesn’t often have midseason moves. It was especially surprising since Richardson was seen as a key piece for the Browns, and since Cleveland already had to turn to third-string quarterback Brian Hoyer this week with starter Brandon Weeden out with injury.

The Browns reportedly have Willis McGahee coming in to help with running duties, though, and Cleveland is said to have saved money by making the move.

So, it’s not that surprising. Unless the player involved had to hear about it on the radio, of course.
