Editor’s note: NESN.com is holding a three-week tournament to determine “Boston’s Best Newcomer.” The Red Sox added a lot of new faces in 2013, and the results have been impressive. It’s time to determine which new addition from 2013 best embodies Boston baseball.
And then there were two.
Koji Uehara and Stephen Drew are the last two players standing in NESN.com’s “Boston’s Best Newcomer” tournament. Uehara defeated Jake Peavy in Round 2, while Drew squeaked by Shane Victorino. Drew’s win marked his second straight upset, as the tournament’s No. 5 seed also overcame fourth-seeded Jonny Gomes in Round 1.
Uehara will give Drew his biggest test yet, but the final round should be an interesting one. While Uehara has been a dominant force at the end of Boston’s bullpen, Drew has come on strong with some huge hits and superb defense. Red Sox fans have a difficult decision to make.
