T.J. Yeldon‘s taunting of Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel already cost his team 15 yards last Saturday. Now, it will cost the running back 15 minutes of playing time.
Yeldon has been suspended for the first quarter of Alabama’s game against Colorado State for his actions during the Crimson Tide’s 49-42 win over Manziel’s Aggies, the Anniston Star reported Friday.
After scoring a second-quarter touchdown, Yeldon imitated the Heisman Trophy winner’s “show me the money” celebration and followed it up with a two-handed throat slash. The sophomore was hit with an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for the display, and his actions were ripped by head coach Nick Saban after the game.
“That’s not us,” Saban said. “That’s not our program. That’s not what we do. We’ve never ever tolerated and we’ve never ever had it. I don’t think there’s any place for it in college football. I can’t control what other people do, but I can control what our guys do.”
Yeldon, who rushed for 149 yards in the contest, apologized for his actions in a team-released statement on Monday.
“I want to apologize to everyone for my selfish actions on Saturday,” he said. “That is not the way I want to represent myself, my family and our team. That is not the way we do things at Alabama. This is something that I will learn from, and I will use better judgment in the future.”
Fortunately for Yeldon, the Tide are nearly 40-point favorites this Saturday in Tuscaloosa, meaning that one quarter without their star back likely won’t have a huge effect on the outcome.
